Last Weekly Update!

Hello Third Grade Families!

I can't believe the year is over! We made it! Thank you so much for such a great year! I've enjoyed getting to know each of your children and I will miss them this summer!

A few reminders for this week:

Tuesday and Wednesday are early release days. Dismissal is at 12:15. PLEASE make sure your child knows how he or she is going home on those days. If there is a transportation change from their usual way of getting home, it must be in writing!

NO BOOKBAGS on Wednesday!

Wednesday is the LAST DAY! YAY!

On Monday, we will participate in Hoops for Heart. We will also enjoy the talent show during the day. Parents are invited to attend the talent show at 6:00, Monday night. We will also visit the Lightbulb lab for some creative fun with Mrs. Bahr on Monday.

Report cards will be mailed home next week in the large envelopes you returned a weeks ago. If you did not provide the optional stamps, you will be able to pick up your report card next week at the front office.

I put together a memory video of all our photos and videos from this year as a gift for the students. You can view the video at this link: http://streamingcobb.cobbk12.org/Panopto/Pages/Viewer.aspx?id=bb37bc98-6cb5-4963-b28c-6e137ae42c45

Weekly Update

Hello Families,
I hope all the moms are having a great Mother's Day Weekend!

Here's a look at our learning this week:

In math, we will again work on 2-step word problems. We will also review telling time and adding/subtracting 3-digit numbers for those who are still working on mastering those skills.

In reading, we hope to finish our book club books this week. Most of us just have a few chapters left. Did you ask your child about his/her group and the book the group is reading?

In social studies, we will review what we've learned about how government works. We will focus on the responsibilities of the 3 branches of government and also how checks and balances work within the branches. Check your child's notebook on Monday for a study guide because we will have a short quiz on Thursday.

In writing, we will be wrapping up the year with some end-of-year writing activities.

We have several special events this week:

Monday - Gritters library will talk to us about the summer reading program.
Tuesday - We will attend a special Fine Arts performance. (Last week's percussion performance was amazing!)
Thursday - KidChess will teach us all about chess, and give us a classroom chess set!
Friday - Awards Day at 8:00!

Here is our countdown calendar:

Weekly Update

Hello Families!

Three Weeks Left! I can't believe it! The year has just flown by!

Here's a look at our week:
In math, we will revisit fractions, especially fractions on a number line and equivalent fractions. We will not have math homework, but there are some good games on our blog that students could try at home for practice. We will have a math quiz on Thursday. In reading, we will continue our book clubs. Has your child told you which book he or she is reading? They each picked a book that interested him or her and have been reading and discussing with their book club. We will also be taking the RI (Reading Inventory computer-based reading assessment) this week to determine an updated reading lexile level. In social studies, we will wrap up our unit about Thurgood Marshall, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Cesar Chavez with an assessment on Wednesday. A study guide went home last Thursday. In writing, we will continue working on poetry and a top-secret writing project that has nothing to do with a certain holiday coming up on Sunday =) Your child will be also presenting his or her selected poem this week. I recommend having your child practice standing and presenting the poem at home. Everyone selected a poem at school if they did not already have one. If your child brought or brings their poem home, please make sure it comes back to school.

We will have a visit from the school counselor and a visit to the science lab this week.

This Thursday night is our GATOR GALA. Please join us for this wonderful event! The program begins at 6:00 in the gym and then we will move around the school for various activities. A few of our classmates are participating in open mic night at the Gator Gala. It's not too late for more to participate. Please let me know if your child would like to be added to the list. All they have to do is read their poem (same poem from the class presentation) during the open mic portion of the evening which will take place in the media center.

This Friday is FIELD DAY!!! More information will be coming home regarding what should and should not be brought to school that day. Hopefully the rain stays away!

Please remember that our last scholastic book order is due this Friday. A coupon for a free book went home last week. I have a few more coupon codes if you need another. Order online HERE. Our class code is P2Y3C.

Please let me or Mrs. Levi know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks!
