Here's a look at our learning this week:
In math, we will begin a new unit on geometry. Some important terms for your child to know are polygon, quadrilateral, and parallel. Please see the Geometry page on the blog for videos and games. Here's my favorite quadrilateral song.
In reading, we will examine how authors choose to organize their information. Did the author use cause & effect, sequencing, description, problem & solution, or compare & contrast to organize the information?
In science, we will continue learning about heat. We will have a test on Friday. Please check your child's folder for a study guide. We will spend time in class reviewing as well since I know most of you are busy with the 3rd grade play this week =)
In writing, we will work on opinion writing. Our writings will include an opening where we state our opinion, multiple reasons with supportive examples, and a closing where we restate our opinion.
Other important information:
Our 3rd grade play, SWAMPED, is this Thursday night! You can practice the songs on Mrs. Shook's blog here. Bring your costumes to school for a dress rehearsal on Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning when we perform for the school!
The BOOK FAIR is happening this week! Your child can bring money and to shop on their own, or you can shop with them after school on Tuesday or Thursday.
The BOOK DRIVE is also happening this week. Please send in gently used or new books for children of all ages as our Student Lighthouse Team works to support children at the Lacota Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
Our students will be proudly participating in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) BRING THE CHANGE program; a coin drive and spirit week to help blood cancer patients and their families.
