Here are some important announcements:
1. ***Today is the last day to sign up for a teacher experience. Mrs. Keith and I are doing an ice cream party with our group and we would love to have you participate with us (or any experience)! Please sign up at http://addisonelemfdtn.wix.com/addison-foundation#!teacher-experience-auction/nlcqa
2. *** Registration for the Gator Gallup is NOW OPEN! I will be running the 5K and I would love to have some parents or students running with me. There is also a Fun Run (shorter than the 5K). Please read more information and sign-up at http://addisonelemfdtn.wix.com/addison-foundation#!gatorgallop/kcxde
3. ***As you’ve hopefully heard, your child will be participating in the Georgia Milestones Assessment in a little over a month. Testing will begin the Wednesday after Spring break, April 6-12. There are 5 sections/days of testing: 2 days of English Language Arts, and 1 day each math, science, and social studies. The state department of education has put together a guide that I encourage you to look through. It is very long, but it gives question samples and gives a good idea of what to expect on the test. We have been and will continue practicing these types of questions in school, but I thought you might want to take a look at it as well. Please let me know if you have any questions. 4. *** This Thursday is Publix Math Night! There will be a fun scavenger hunt for the kids with math-related problems. I’ll be there with my family =) It is the Shallowford/Sandy Plains location.
And here’s a look at what we will be learning this week: In social studies, we are finishing our unit on Mary McLeod Bethune, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Eleanor Roosevelt. Ask your child why these people are important to our country’s history. In writing, we are working on editing our extended response answers to questions and learning about how to write detailed explanations of our thoughts =) In reading, we are combining health with our reading standards. We are learning and reading about the circulatory and respiratory systems and then we will be comparing the two. In math, we are finishing up our data and graphing chapter and then beginning a unit on perimeter and area.
On Friday, we will visit the science lab and also have a visit from our school counselor, Mrs. Weston.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything. Have a GREAT week! I hope to see you on Thursday for math night. And don’t forget to sign up for a teacher experience and the gator gallop!
