Hello Families,

Here are some important announcements:

1.      ***Today is the last day to sign up for a teacher experience. Mrs. Keith and I are doing an ice cream party with our group and we would love to have you participate with us (or any experience)! Please sign up at http://addisonelemfdtn.wix.com/addison-foundation#!teacher-experience-auction/nlcqa

2.     *** Registration for the Gator Gallup is NOW OPEN! I will be running the 5K and I would love to have some parents or students running with me. There is also a Fun Run (shorter than the 5K). Please read more information and sign-up at http://addisonelemfdtn.wix.com/addison-foundation#!gatorgallop/kcxde

3.      ***As you’ve hopefully heard, your child will be participating in the Georgia Milestones Assessment in a little over a month. Testing will begin the Wednesday after Spring break, April 6-12. There are 5 sections/days of testing: 2 days of English Language Arts, and 1 day each math, science, and social studies. The state department of education has put together a guide that I encourage you to look through. It is very long, but it gives question samples and gives a good idea of what to expect on the test. We have been and will continue practicing these types of questions in school, but I thought you might want to take a look at it as well. Please let me know if you have any questions. Here is the link: http://www.gadoe.org/Curriculum-Instruction-and-Assessment/Assessment/Documents/Milestones/Study-Resource%20Guides/StudyGuide_Gr3_s15GA-EOG_12-31-15.pdf

4.     *** This Thursday is Publix Math Night! There will be a fun scavenger hunt for the kids with math-related problems. I’ll be there with my family =) It is the Shallowford/Sandy Plains location.

And here’s a look at what we will be learning this week: In social studies, we are finishing our unit on Mary McLeod Bethune, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Eleanor Roosevelt. Ask your child why these people are important to our country’s history. In writing, we are working on editing our extended response answers to questions and learning about how to write detailed explanations of our thoughts =) In reading, we are combining health with our reading standards. We are learning and reading about the circulatory and respiratory systems and then we will be comparing the two. In math, we are finishing up our data and graphing chapter and then beginning a unit on perimeter and area.

On Friday, we will visit the science lab and also have a visit from our school counselor, Mrs. Weston.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything. Have a GREAT week! I hope to see you on Thursday for math night. And don’t forget to sign up for a teacher experience and the gator gallop!

Pictures

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!

We had a GREAT week! Here are some pictures of our adventures.

We surveyed our classmates to get data for our bar graphs and picture graphs. We also made an m&m graph today.

We read all about the importance of Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

We visited the media center.

We also had a visit from Well-Star today with a lesson on controlling our emotions. Your child brought home a red stress ball to use as one of the strategies for controlling anger.

I hope everyone has a GREAT break! I'll see you on Feb. 22.

Hello Everyone!
Here are a few pictures from last week's learning:

In math, we learned about measuring to the 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch.

In the science lab, we worked together to make mini-habitats.

And the desk fairy came to visit and rewarded several students for having a clean and organized desk. I'm sure she'll visit again soon.

This week, in social studies we will be learning about Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Ask your child why he is an important historical figure. In writing, we are working on a narrative piece that may be picked for the Cobb County writing fair. In reading, we will continue working on comparing and contrasting. And in math, we will be collecting data and making graphs based on our data. On Wednesday afternoon, we will meet with our 1st grade buddies. On Thursday, we will visit the media center. Please make sure your child returns their books so they're able to check out new books to have over the long break. Also, please make sure you are filling out the Six Flags reading log. These are due Feb. 24. If you need another copy of the log, let me know. On Friday, we will have a visit from WellStar with a lesson on temper tamers.

Picture Day is TOMORROW! (Feb. 9)

This Friday we will have our ice cream party to celebrate our memorized multiplication facts. We will continue to take timed tests this week and hopefully everyone will have completed all the facts (1-10) by Friday. Ask your child which set he or she is on and encourage them to practice =)

We will be exchanging Valentines on Friday if your child wants to participate. Your child can send in a box or bag to collect Valentines if they would like. There are 21 students in our class.

Please return your scholastic book order by this Friday, Feb. 12. You can also place your order online at https://clubs2.scholastic.com/. Our class code is P2Y3C. If your child has not used their gift certificate for a free $5 book yet, let me know. I have their codes if they lost them.

Have a GREAT week!
